儿童早期
艺术
Visual arts, creative 运动, and music are as core to our curriculum as they are to being a child.
Working closely with professional artists and musicians and exceptional educators, 儿童早期 students are introduced to different ways and cultural traditions for creating art, 移动他们的身体, 做音乐, and expressing their view of the world.
儿童早期 classroom spaces are maker spaces, from the Art Room to the Blocks Cabinet to the 音乐学院. Our youngest learners rehearse and stage plays in the 富兰克林剧院, show their artwork in the Waynflete 画廊, and perform original musical compositions in Pachanga—learning craft, 创造性的自我表达, 还有一路走来的自信.
幼儿艺术
视觉艺术
The 较低的学校 视觉艺术 program is designed to help students develop capabilities for creating, 理解, 以及欣赏符号和形象. Students participate in a wide range of activities to encourage and expand creative expression, to broaden their 理解 of the arts in a historical and cultural context, and to develop a personal sense of aesthetics. 绘图顺序指令, 绘画, 陶瓷, and printmaking form the core of materials-based learning. 世界文化, 历史与当代艺术家, and stylistic 运动s are blended into the curriculum.
音乐
在低年级的音乐课程中, students develop musical literacy through creative participation in individual and group experiences; gain 理解 of our rich musical heritage and those of other cultures; and develop an appreciation of the connections between music and other forms of artistic expression. Incorporated into these guiding principles are pertinent areas of study as defined by state and national standards for arts education. 其中包括倾听, 创建/即兴创作, 运动, 节奏, 唱歌, 读写符号, 弹奏乐器, and evaluating and 理解 artistic culture. The 较低的学校 music program offers the necessary time and space for exploratory play, and provides scaffolding to guide students toward musical form and 理解.
创造性的运动
创造性的运动 classes in 儿童早期, 幼儿园, and Grade 1 introduce the principles of dance 运动 and the use of four elements: space, 形状, 力, 和节奏. These basic elements of 运动 provide students with a limitless vocabulary of 运动 possibilities, an awareness of self and each other in individual and group sessions, and a greater awareness of themselves in relation to the surrounding space.
Classes begin each year with an emphasis on the theme of opposites. 通过即兴的动作, students explore the concept of antonyms (light/heavy, 快/慢, 软/锋利, 进入/退出). An animal theme is also taught in coordination with stories and fables read in the classroom throughout the year. Literature comes to life through 运动 and the creative retelling of traditional, 受欢迎的, 还有原创故事. The program promotes a sense of accomplishment, 发现, 和信心 at a pace that is both comfortable and challenging.
